“Very calm, lets everyone express themselves on the field”: SKY on Pollard the captain
By Vineet Anantharaman
It’s a new beginning. Before we deal with some mixed emotions about not having Kieron Pollard - the explosive batter - in an MI shirt in 2023, we have our chance to reminisce. Our very own Polly Tatya, won’t just be belting bowlers around, he’d be doing it with his captain’s hat on for our sister franchise, MI Emirates in the upcoming inaugural edition of the ILT20.
We, the Paltan, need no reminders of how his captaincy outings have gone for the Blue and Gold. Ask Punjab. Ask CSK. Surya dada knows just as well.
“I feel as a leader he has been very calm and composed. He has let everyone express themselves whether the team is under the pump or we’re on top. He’s always kept us alive in the game and very relaxed. So we feel very comfortable when he’s led MI and I am sure he will do the same when he leads MI E,” SKY said in an exclusive chat with MI Emirates.
So this isn’t the new part. Polly has led us before. He’s made a habit of winning games for us before. What’s new though in all this, is Pollard, the batting coach, and SKY is super excited to play under his mentorship!
“His transition from captain to batting coach, I don’t know how it’s going to be (smiles). I am out of words right now. Until last year he was playing and now suddenly him talking about batting, watching us batting in the nets is going to be a completely different experience,” he quipped.
“But I am sure it is going to be exactly how he plays his cricket. A different brand of cricket. He’s always been a livewire on the field, while batting and fielding. The same energy will flow when he is the batting coach as well. Very excited to have him.”
Captain in the desert. Coach at the Wankhede. The Llord is all set to expand his range, and spread his arms, both to tonk sixes and out-think oppositions. We cannot wait. The ILT20 starts on Friday (January 13), with MI Emirates set to play their first game on Saturday (January 14). Get us a time machine and get this started ..
