“We bleed blue, and will continue bleeding blue”

“We bleed blue, and will continue bleeding blue”

Okay, we’ve probably witnessed the match of the season. Pulling off 20 runs in the final over, smoking a six off the very last delivery, and stealing the match right from the opponent’s pocket. Oh, it feels bloody good. Coming in to bat at number three, Andre Fletcher set the platform and the momentum for the chase with a 43-ball53. Here he is, talking in the post-match press conference. Excerpts ..

On the emotions during the nail-biting game

It was a great game. It was intense. Honestly, in the last two overs, Pooran and I were in the dugout and I told him that if we carried the game to the last over and needed 20 runs, we would have a chance. I’m not saying Andre Russell is a bad bowler. Even in the previous innings, Bravo had a great knock. Zadran was hitting the ball cleanly in the practice games. It shows the depth we have in our batting. Good to be on the winning side. We now need to continue this momentum. We don’t want to get complacent as our captain mentioned. We need to continue to gel as a team and as a family and enjoy each other’s success.

The strategy before the final over

You have to take into consideration that there was a shorter side. Bravo was hitting towards the shorter side. It is just that slight mistake that a bowler makes and he can travel. Kudos to Bravo, he played well, and Zadran finishing it off. We cannot ask for anything better. The dugout felt like we won a final. But it shows how happy we are as a team. We do everything as a team, on and off the team. We bleed blue, and we will continue bleeding blue.

Thoughts on winning three out of three games

It’s a great position to be in. But we don’t want to take things for granted. The tournament is still open and we want to play good and positive cricket. We are gelling well and are doing everything we need to do as a team. The leader we have is very strict, very positive, and wants the best for the players. We just have to come out there and perform for the fans.

On ADKR’s ploy to give the last over to Andre Russell

We know Narine is one of the best spinners in the world. But he got only one wicket. So the wicket wasn’t spinning much. Yes, the over for Russell went bad, but maybe bringing in a spinner to bowl the last over would have been a serious gamble for a captain. But we know what Russell can do, both with bat and ball. Today wasn’t his day, and Bravo and Zadran did well.

On the importance of mental health of players

Mental health is very important as much as we need to stay physically fit. I try to rest as much as possible and do gym work. I won’t take away that dancing part, I like it a lot. I am enjoying my cricket and would like to play as much as I can. When the time reaches (to quit), so be it.
